A tale as old as as the mythical beasts themselves, a knight slaying a dragon has been the highlight of almost every medieval poem, story, play, and tall tales at a local pub. However, does one stop to think of the lives that are destroyed when one slays a so called 'evil' dragon?

From the point of view of us humans, the dragon is a mindless monster hellbent on torching our fields, stealing our livestock, and plundering our treasures. But does one stop to wonder if maybe we're wrong?
Maybe the dragon is more like us than we'd like to think.

The image before me in honesty, brought me to tears. There is nothing more gut wrenching, soul shattering, or downright horrible than loosing your mother in such a meaningless way.
The little hatchling that is probably no more than a few days old has just lost his mother to a glory seeking knight all for the sake of a name and title. Without his mother there to protect and feed him, the little creature will probably not live to see the next sunrise, and fall prey to larger animals such as wolves or mountain lions.

The emotion the hatchling displays tugs at my heart because one so young should never have to witness the murder of the one who helped bring him into the world. From what I can see, the hatchling now sits there, weeping on his mother's corpse alone while waiting for death to claim him.
That right there hits harder than most anything.
Impact- 5/5
Vision- 5/5

Because of the popularity of dragons being slain by knights, I was tempted to continue on with the next page when I saw the image,
Originality- 3.5/5
however, I'm glad I didn't.

I'm unsure where the mother's head is, although it's probably behind the wing.
technique- 4.5/5

Because this piece is so heart wrenching, I wish a painful and well deserved death upon anyone who dares kill a dragoness when she has young.

When you slay a dragon, not only are you killing one of the most mythical creatures in modern pop-culture, but you are killing someone's mother or father. Remember that before you plunge that sword, or shoot that bow.

Peace-The exile in shadow.
